Well, it is that time of year again and the Combined Winter Sports event is now well underway. This event is the top level organisation for snow and ice sports competition for the UK Armed Forces, it includes; Alpine Skiing, Nordic Skiing, Telemark Skiing, Snowboarding, Bobsleigh, Luge, Skeleton-Bob, and Cresta!

Over the years we have provided the CSWSA with all their radio communication equipment for these events and 2016 is no exception, armed with the latest technology radios to suit the requirements for cold climates and rugged terrain the CSWSA are fully kitted out for their event.

The Combined Services Winter Sports Association celebrated their 60th anniversary in 2012. The association exists for the promotion of excellence within the winter sports association for her Majesty’s Armed Forces. Organised annual ranking competitions held by some of the pioneers of skiing and bobsledding, this prestigious event is key to entry into national and international competitions.

These sporting opportunities enhance self-discipline, courage and physical fitness; they provide vital recuperation and focus beyond the operational commitments of service personnel. Historically a significant number of servicemen and women have represented Great Britain in winter sports disciplines, a trend which will continue to Sochi in 2016.

The sports supported include the following at annual Inter-Services events:
Ski, Snowboard and Telemark Competitions, held in Meribel, France.
Cresta Run held in St Moritz, Switzerland.
Ice Sports Competition: Bobsleigh, Skeleton Bobsleigh, and Luge, held in Igls, Austria.
Nordic Competition, including Biathlon, held in Ruhpolding, Austria.

The CSWSA also supports Combined Service teams who go on to compete in their discipline’s national championship events. The CSWSA funds all these competitions through sponsorship donations and derives no public financial support. Furthermore, all competitors make substantial contributions to their own costs throughout the season and the CSWSA has no full-time employees; it is a volunteer organisation that relies on serving personnel who have a passion for winter sports giving their free time to prepare the events and runs the organisation.
